You can have the right experience and still get passed over because of small, fixable resume mistakes. Here are seven of the most common - and exactly how to fix each.
1. Burying your contact info in the header
Many applicant tracking systems skip headers and footers. If your name, email, and phone live only up there, they can vanish from your parsed profile. Put your contact details in the body of the resume, near the top.
2. Listing duties instead of results
Describe what you did and add an outcome only when you can support it. Fictional illustration: "Cut scheduling errors 40% by rebuilding the weekly rota." The original statement "Responsible for managing the schedule" does not establish that result. Keep the original fact until you can verify any additional detail.
3. Using one generic resume for every job

4. Running too long - or cramming too tight
One page is plenty for most people; two is fine once you have a decade of relevant experience. Don't shrink the font to 8pt to fit - cut the oldest, least relevant material instead.
5. Typos and inconsistent formatting
A single typo can read as carelessness. Read it out loud, run a spell-check, and have one other person look it over. Keep dates, fonts, and bullet styles perfectly consistent.
6. Fancy designs that break the parser
Columns, text boxes, icons, and photos can scramble in an ATS. Unless you're handing a resume to a human in a creative field, keep the layout clean and single-column.
7. A weak or missing summary
The top third of your resume is prime real estate. Use two or three lines to state who you are, your specialty, and the value you bring - tuned to the role you want.
